With a focus on children (enriching the lives of children, one community and one child at a time), it is appropriate that our various sponsored Service Leadership Programs for youth be accompanied by a policy of the high standards Ashland Kiwanis expects of its members – and other adults – as respects their interaction with youth in all Kiwanis and/or Kiwanis Family activities.

Our Youth Protection Policy is not intended to limit the interaction with the young people we support.  Rather, the policy establishes the standards the Club expects its members and other adults to meet in working with youth in all Kiwanis activities.  These standards not only strive to protect the children and Kiwanians, but also they are intended to provide “peace of mind” to parents and others charged with the safety of our youth.

If one observes or otherwise becomes aware of a situation that may put a youth at risk, the situation should be reported immediately to the appropriate authorities. Towards that end, one of the following phone numbers can be called to accomplish this:

Emergency- 911
Non-emergency police number 365-6140
Virginia Child Abuse Hotline-manned 24/7 365 days /year 1-800-552-7096
Hanover County Child Protective Services 8-5 M-F 365-4100
National Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-4-A- Child/ 1-800-422-4453

Note:  The “Background Check” procedure, mentioned in our “Youth Protection Policy,” is an internal Ashland Kiwanis procedure and, as such, can be viewed only by Club members who log-on to the web site.  The policy is found in the Documents Section of the site.
