Club celebrates 95th birthday on Charter Night - 03/19/2018

Kiwanians and their spouses/guests celebrated the club's 95th anniversary at Charter Night.  Capital District Governor Elect John Morris and Secretary-Treasurer Tom Varner were our honored guests, along with Sondra Bentley and Ruth Smith.  John McDaniel became our newest Hixson Fellow at the event.  Joe Stiles (posthumously), Andy Stiles, Eddie Stiles and Jack Luck received the club's Legacy of Service Award for almost 170 combined years of service to our communities and their children.

Spring "Roots & Shoots" service project completed on time! - 03/08/2018

Led by Charlie Martin, seven Ashland Kiwanians again worked with area gardening organizations to prepare the raised garden beds in the courtyard of Henry Clay Elementary School for the school children to shortly plant flower and vegetable seeds.  


Fall and spring work sessions have been Kiwanis service projects for many years.  Our club built the raised garden beds and tool sheds in the courtyard.

Dan McGraw - Our newest member! - 02/19/2018

Sponsor Charlie Martin (l) and President PJ Edmonds (r) inducted our newest member, Daniel McGraw, at the club's February 19 dinner meeting.  Dan teaches Latin at Patrick Henry High School and Liberty Middle School.  Dan and wife, Tennylle, and their children  are residents of Ashland, and Dan is looking forward to serving the community and its children as a Kiwanian.

Recognition for 2016 - 2017 addition of new members - 01/15/2018

Our 2016 - 2017 club president, Dan DiCandilo, was recognized by Kiwanis International's  Formula Program for the club's addition to new members during that year.  A KI certificate for this accomplishment was presented to Dan by current president PJ Edmonds.  Dan and PJ spearheaded our membership recruiting efforts that year.

Club achieves diamond level status in "Today Club" for Kiwanis Children's Fund - 01/10/2018

Kiwanis Children's Fund notified us today that the Kiwanis Club of Ashland achieved the Diamond Level in the Today Club for its contributions to the Children's Fund for the 2016 - 2017 year.  Led by our Legacy Donor Tom Varner, our club's contributions exceeded an average amount of more than $100 per club member.

"Social" held on a c-o-l-d January evening! - 01/02/2018

The thermometer read 14 degrees that evening, but 28 Kiwanians attended the first "social" of the year.  The event was held at the Ashland Coffee & Tea, and club members fortified themselves against the frigid weather with plenty of salad, hot lasagna, and coffee.

Members & Guests Greet Holiday Season - 12/18/2017

Thirty-two Ashland Kiwanians and their spouses/guests enjoyed a nice buffet dinner and time together at Estes Hall.  Among our special guests were Betty Shamburger, Sondra Bentley and Ruth Smith (whose Kiwanis husbands remain with us in spirit) as well as Jane & Rob Wait, former LTG Bill Watson & wife Laura (Cooper), and LTG Donnie Kaloski & wife Meghan.

Ashland Kiwanians brave wintry weather to participate in Angel Tree service project - 12/09/2017

Despite a layer of snow on the ground and snow flurries throughout the day, four of our members, 2 spouses and 2 grandsons traveled to Midlothian, VA to participate in the Kiwanis Division 11 Salvation Army Angel Tree service project.  Thanks to PJ, his wife Ann, Suzanne, Jody, Gary, his wife Betty and their grandsons for their holiday service and for being our club's contingent at the service project!

Great Weather, Attendance for Ashland/Hanover Olde Time Holiday Parade - 11/19/2017

Thirty-four Ashland Kiwanians volunteered their service to hold the Ashland/Hanover Olde Time Holiday Parade.  Sunny skies and cool, breezy weather greeted the 104 parade units and the attending public.  Other participating Kiwanis Family members included the Aktion Club of Ashland, R-MC CKI, and the Key Clubs of Hanover, Lee-Davis and Patrick Henry High Schools.  The Parade Grand Marshal was former Ashland Kiwanian Rob Wait.  Kudos to our Parade Committee for another civic service project well planned and executed!

Club again participates in Ashland Train Day - 11/04/2017

Despite cool weather and overcast skies, thousands of children and their families congregated in downtown Ashland to celebrate Train Day.  Ten Kiwanians, led by Kyle Hendricks, operated the Hobo Diner concession stand and raised $950 for our Civic/ Service Account.  Eight other Ashland Kiwanians, joined by a larger number of volunteers from our sponsored four Key Clubs and R-MC CKI Club helped with the event.  Volunteers from the Richmond Young Professionals Kiwanis Club also helped.
